You know what?

I think that there's an awful lot of irony in my life. I came back from a trip on Sunday, during which I was lectured on certain books that "Christians should not read" (which include LoTR and Harry Potter) by a guy three times my age and clearly in his own fantasy world, to start back at uni and catch the flu on the first day of lectures. Ironic doesn't begin to describe my life at the moment. I'm a bit glum also because if I'm not much better, I won't be able to go to the Freshers Fair tomorrow and I want to sign up for the badminton club :( Plus, I offered my help to the CU (Christian Union) before I got flu and if they phone me asking for help I'll have to turn them down. And to top it all, every time I sneeze (often), it goes EVERYWHERE. On a totally unrelated note, I cleaned my computer screen today.

Get well soon Mazzie-chan *glomps despite the bugs*

Non christian 'heathen' media is only dangerous to those who are vunerable to it. I got given a good telling off for talking about the Matrix a few years ago but honestly unless you are wanting to become a witch I doubt Harry Potter has induced anyone into bad things even then everything is fantasy and impossible.

I had one or two worries about Buffy because Willow (my fave character) went from being a bookworm to a full blown witch by reading and teaching herself witchcraft then joined a coven to increase her powers as if you can become magical easily just by getting into the occult, as if it was sort of ok if you keep it under control but sadly it's not like that, as we both know, if you get into magic you're just being used & abused.

It's all a question of perspective: the americans went up the wall over janet jackson's boob but don't mind the senseless violence of FPShooter games. My parents are fine about sci fi and fantasy but they didn't let me watch Beverly Hills 90210 as a kid because they felt it was sending out a message that sleeping around, lying and being unfaithful to your friends was ok.

I guess it all depends on what you're weaknesses are. I've never smoked a cigarette because I know that if I start I'll never stop. I already have chain smoker mannerisms! It's very tempting though. I could easily be swayed into supporting or doing vigilante justice because I get so angry about stuff. Making the choice to not use romantic relationships as a crutch for life or a means of getting what i want was a tough choice too so yeah I'd understand if my parents got worried that I suddenly started listening to music/watching movies that encourage my bad habits

But in the end what you watch, listen to and read is up to you alone, its up to you to see if you are addicted to something unhealthy or not. I havn't seen LOTR do YOU any harm ... I can't say as much about the Elf abuse fanfic writing fangirls *shame for hurting Legolas* or the ones that visualise Sam + Frodo + insert random character here shagging in interesting ways throughout the film when they are just talking to eachother and have way more important things on their minds *lol*.
I'm giggling as I write this, thinking about what that bloke would say if he saw the HP smut! Oh dear i'm dreadful

Funnily enough, we had our youth outreach weekend a few weeks ago and Andy, the speaker, used a clip from the Matrix in his talk. The red pill and blue pill bit ^__^ It was quite good. I honestly think he's just been brought up to think that anything non-Christian is bad. Harry Potter really has little relation to witchcraft to be honest, it's just superficial, it's just a story after all. I think the moral messages are more important myself. The late Pope, bless his soul, thought the same - so I dunno why this guy couldn't.

I liked Willow too - I liked it when she was going out with Seth Green more, the early Willow (a bit like you, actually!). I didn't like all the dark witchy stuff much either. I think shows like Buffy and Charmed are at least a bit misleading, but I honestly don't know how pointing a wand and yelling something could be taken seriously. I mean, come on. I've never smoked and I don't drink either - I've drank before though, I just don't want to. I hate it when people smoke, it really stinks so I don't think I'd ever be tempted.

I was just hurt when he said that about LoTR - hey, it's not the Bible, but it's not exactly the book of demonic witchcraft, is it? Makes me wonder what he reads. I respect the Bible and all but I couldn't go through life reading nothing else. Oh yeah, those fanfics are scary. I don't know why people feel the urge to make every character going gay and in lust with every other character going. It's ok if they ARE gay, but no LoTR character is, and it's just sick, half the things people write.

Oh yes, I think he'd probably have a heart attack ^__^;;

I know - no point in saying that to me anyway, not like I'd listen!
